Degradation analysis in asymmetric sampled grating distributed feedback laser diodes

چکیده
This paper presents the experimental observation of the degradation in asymmetric sampled grating DFB lasers by the accelerated life tests. Two degradation phenomena related to the electrical characteristics of LDs are observed during the tests. The first degradation phenomenon by increasing the reverse current is considered as a formation of leakage current path enough to prevent lasing operation in lateral blocking layer near active region of lasers. The second degradation phenomenon by decreasing the forward current is considered as activation of non-radiative Auger recombination process by thermal energy. It is also experimentally observed that the second degradation phenomenon is recovered after remained in room temperature with no electrical stress. Therefore, the criteria for LD reliability can be determined by observing the degradation of the reverse current–voltage characteristics. r 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Design of a new asymmetric waveguide in InP-Based multi-quantum well laser
Today, electron leakage in InP-based separate confinement laser diode has a serious effect on device performance. Control of electron leakage current is the aim of many studies in semiconductor laser industry. In this study, for the first time, a new asymmetric waveguide structure with n-interlayer for a 1.325 μm InP-based laser diode with InGaAsP multi-quantum well is proposed and theoreticall...

λ2 OC-192 We are manufacturing widely tunable laser diodes based on an integrated single chip design. The sampled-grating distributed Bragg reflector (SG-DBR) laser is monolithically integrated with a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). The continuous wave (cw) output power of the fully packaged device is more than 20mW over the entire C-band with low noise figures and a high side-mode suppr...
متن کاملLongitudinal Mode Competition in Chirped Grating Distributed Feedback Lasers
Gain competition often inhibits the simultaneous lasing of multiple longitudinal modes in homogeneously broadened laser systems. A stability analysis is developed to demonstrate that the two lowest order degenerate longitudinal modes in an indexcoupled distributed feedback (DFB) laser will lase simultaneously when the index grating is chirped asymmetrically along the axis of the device. This ch...

We report an organic solid-state distributed feedback laser consisting of an organic active layer and a Bragg grating without morphological change. The active layer consists of 4-~dicyanomethylene!-2-methyl-6-~4-dimethylaminostryl!-4H-pyran as a laser dye, tris~8hydroxyquinoline! aluminum as a host, and poly~methyl methacrylate! as a binder. The threshold and linewidth of the laser are 400 mJ/c...
